This service is for women who are experiencing, preparing to leave or rebuilding their lives after abuse or exploitation. This may include domestic abuse, coercive control, emotional abuse, physical abuse, financial abuse, sexual abuse, spiritual abuse, forced labour, domestic servitude or another form of exploitation. You do not need to be certain how to describe your experience before contacting us.
No. You can contact us if you are considering leaving, preparing to leave, have recently left or are rebuilding your life after leaving. We understand that leaving can be a process rather than a single event. We will not pressure you to leave before you feel ready or make decisions on your behalf.
Support will be tailored to your circumstances and may include:
Our application describes this as flexible, person-centred casework delivered through a named caseworker who remains involved for as long as support is needed.
Yes, you will have a named caseworker who remains your main point of contact. We will place female case workers for your help in most cases. This helps you build trust and avoids having to repeatedly explain your situation to unfamiliar people. The level and frequency of contact may change as your circumstances become more stable.
There is no fixed number of conversations for everyone. Support may be more intensive while you are leaving or finding safe accommodation, followed by less frequent check-ins as you rebuild your life. The duration will depend on your needs, risks, progress and our available capacity. Mindful Ummah’s model is designed to provide continuity rather than closing support after a fixed number of sessions.
Yes. We can work with you to identify risks, priorities, trusted contacts and practical steps that may improve your safety. A safety plan may include safe communication, important documents, children’s needs, emergency accommodation and links to specialist domestic-abuse or exploitation services. A safety plan cannot guarantee your safety, and you should call 999 when there is immediate danger.
Mindful Ummah does not operate a refuge or directly provide emergency housing. We may help you understand your options, prepare information and connect with local authorities, refuges, homelessness services and other specialist organisations. Our support is intended to reduce the risk of homelessness by helping women plan safely and navigate emergency and longer-term housing options.
No. Mindful Ummah does not provide regulated legal or immigration advice unless this is delivered by an appropriately qualified and authorised professional. We may help you find and connect with suitable solicitors, immigration advisers, advocates or specialist organisations.
Yes, you can still contact us. We understand that immigration or spousal-visa concerns can make leaving more difficult. We can provide emotional and practical support and connect you with a properly authorised immigration adviser.
We can help you identify urgent concerns and connect you with qualified welfare, benefits, debt or financial-support organisations. We may also support you with practical steps towards financial independence, such as opening appropriate accounts, developing skills, returning to work or accessing training. We do not provide regulated debt or financial advice ourselves.
Yes. Your personal support plan may include digital skills, CV preparation, training, volunteering, interview preparation or employment support. We can help you recognise your existing strengths and connect you with opportunities that suit your safety, childcare needs, confidence and circumstances.
No. We will not pressure you to return to an unsafe relationship, reconcile with an abuser or involve relatives or community members against your wishes. Where family or community involvement may be helpful, it will only be considered with your agreement and where it is safe and appropriate.
Yes. We understand that religious language, family pressure or community expectations may sometimes be misused to control, shame or silence women. Our service is designed to recognise these barriers and provide culturally informed support without using faith to justify abuse. The application explains that this cultural understanding helps women speak honestly and engage with support when mainstream services may have felt unfamiliar or unsafe.
We treat your information carefully and will not normally contact relatives, partners, employers or other services without your knowledge and consent. Information may need to be shared where there is a serious risk of harm, a safeguarding concern or a legal obligation. We will explain these limits clearly.
The appointment form will ask for your safest contact method and suitable times to contact you. Please only provide contact details that are safe for you to access. You may also tell us whether it is safe to leave a voicemail, send a text message or mention Mindful Ummah.
This pathway is designed particularly around the barriers experienced by Muslim women, including religious, cultural and community pressures. We speak their languages and understand their concerns. However, we are open for all women experiencing abuse. Please contact us if you are unsure whether the service is suitable. We will listen respectfully and explain what support Mindful Ummah or a partner organisation may be able to provide.
Yes. You can contact us directly, or a trusted professional or organisation can refer you with your knowledge and consent. Referrals may come from refuges, healthcare professionals, social workers, housing teams, police, local authorities, community organisations or specialist abuse and exploitation services.
A member of our team will review your request and contact you using the safe method and time you have provided. We will arrange an initial conversation to understand your immediate safety, needs and priorities. Where appropriate, you may then be allocated a caseworker and supported to develop a personal safety and support plan. Submitting the form does not guarantee a place in the programme. We must first confirm that the service is suitable and that we have the capacity and appropriate expertise to support you.
